Terms of Use

Last updated: May 2026

Doughwise is a free tool built by one baker, for bakers. These terms are written plainly. By using the site you agree to them, but there's nothing here designed to catch you out.

What Doughwise is

Doughwise is a collection of free sourdough calculators — bulk fermentation timing, starter feeding schedules, and hydration and recipe math. The calculations are based on established food science principles, including the Q10 fermentation rate rule and standard baker's percentage formulas.

The tool is provided free of charge, with no account required for the calculators. An optional email signup is available for people who want to be notified of updates.

The calculators provide estimates, not guarantees

This is the most important thing to understand about using Doughwise. Sourdough fermentation is affected by dozens of variables — flour brand and protein content, water mineral composition, the specific microbial population of your starter, ambient humidity, oven calibration, altitude, and more. The calculators account for the most significant variables (dough temperature, starter percentage, hydration, starter activity) but cannot account for all of them.

The outputs — bulk fermentation times, peak predictions, ingredient weights — are estimates based on typical conditions. They are a starting point, not a prescription. You should always use your own judgement, observe your dough, and adjust based on what you see.

Doughwise is not responsible for baking outcomes. A loaf that doesn't turn out the way you hoped is not grounds for a claim against this tool or its operator.

Food safety

Doughwise calculators address timing and ratios for bread baking. They do not provide food safety advice. You are responsible for ensuring that any food you prepare, serve, or share is safe to eat. If you are baking for people with dietary restrictions, allergies, or health conditions, consult appropriate professional guidance — not a fermentation calculator.

Acceptable use

You may use Doughwise for any lawful personal or commercial baking purpose. You may share links to the tool freely. You may not:

  • Attempt to reverse engineer, copy, or redistribute the tool's code without permission
  • Use automated tools to scrape or systematically access the site in a way that burdens the service
  • Use the site for any purpose that is unlawful or harmful to others

The suggested recipe, baker's process notes, and written content on this site are the original work of the operator and may not be reproduced without attribution.

Intellectual property

The Doughwise name, branding, and written content are the property of the operator. The underlying fermentation science — the Q10 rule, baker's percentage formulas, and related food science — is well-established knowledge in the public domain. Doughwise does not claim ownership of these principles.

Availability

Doughwise is provided on a best-efforts basis. As a free tool operated independently, there are no uptime guarantees. The service may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside my control. I'll do my best to keep it running reliably.

Changes to the tool and these terms

Doughwise may add features, change calculators, or update the site at any time. If features are added that affect how your data is used, the Privacy Policy will be updated and — if you're on the email list — you'll hear about it before it happens.

These terms may be updated occasionally. The date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Limitation of liability

Doughwise is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Doughwise is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of this tool, including but not limited to baking failures, wasted ingredients, or decisions made based on calculator outputs.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence — where such limitation would be unlawful.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is based. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
